Welcome to Daniel's Blog (see below)
When I was 12 years old, one of my five brain aneurysms burst in my head while I was playing basketball. I was in a coma for 30 days and hospitalized for 341 days, but who's counting? Today, I am training for the ING New York City Marathon on November 4, 2007.
Here is a short video about me from Reading Rainbow.
"Yo Adrienne, I did it" - Monday, November 5th!!!
I finished yesterdays NYC Marathon in 7:49:12 and it was amazing! It was the perfect day! I can't thank everyone enough for all their help and support! Everyone was so helpful and positive. I will never forget November 4, 2007!

Like a horse at the starting gate - Saturday, November 3
Yesterday I went to the Marathon Expo and I got my number - sweet 49913! It is my new favorite number. Less than 24 hours until the start and I can't believe it. I am ready to take on the whole 26.2 miles. I will be starting at 8:00AM and should be finished by 4:00PM. Some people have asked what time I will be passing certain points in the race -
I will be going between 12 and 20 minutes per mile depending if I am on the handcrank or walking. I should be at mile 7 in Brooklyn between 9:30AM and 10:00AM.
In Manhattan I will be going on the east side of 1st Avenue and my mom, relatives and friends will all be on 92nd St. and 1st Ave. That is mile 18 and I should be there between 12:30PM and 1:15PM. Hope to see some of you there!
Going to rest the remainder of the day and pig-out.
Less than TWO DAYS - Friday, November 2nd
My training is complete and I am feeling good! It is hard to just wait around as I am ready to go! I can't believe we are less than 2 days away. I will be going to the EXPO in a little while to pick up my number and racing chip and then I will start packing everything I will need for Sunday. Tonight is the Achilles Pasta party and over 300 Achilles athletes and volunteers from all over the world will be there. I wish everyone a great race! Best wishes everyone!

She is always there for me, is always very supportive and I love her very much! Click on the photo gallery to find out who this special woman is!!!!
A Special Day - Tuesday, October 30th
The day before Halloween was an amazing day for me and my family! I was fortunate to have won the Avis "We Try Harder" award which is given to 2 athletes per year. I want to thank Avis for this great award. I was asked to attend the marathon press conference where I met last years male winner, Marilson Gomes dos Santos from Brazil. I also met this amazing man Vincent Corso who I shared the Avis award with. He used to weigh over 300 pounds and is now down to 160 pounds. He plans on finishing the marathon in about 3 1/2 hours. Everyone at the press conference was really nice to me and my mother, father, Michael and Kate were all there.

I know the press conference was for the media but I ended up asking Marilson if he had any advice for me as a first time marathoner. He said I should be "patient" which made a lot of sense to me but my dad thought he said "finish" which also made sense. So I'll take both words to heart.

Last night I went to the Achilles Dinner and it was delicious and great. I saw so many friends and it was a special night. I felt so good that I wanted the marathon to start right away.

The new weather forecast for the marathon is sunny so I won't have to wear as many layers as I thought.

Countdown to the BIG DAY - Sunday, October 28th
Well, the official countdown has begun as there is just one week until the Marathon. Hopefully, I will be finished by this time next week otherwise I will be in the middle of the road somewhere. There is a lot going on this week - dinners, dinners and more dinners mmmm....My brother Michael and cousin Ted will be coming in to help guide me for the big race and I know a lot of family and friends will be at the race also.

My dad told me that according to the weather forecast there is a 60% chance of showers. I told him that means that there's a 40% chance of no showers. That's how I like to look at things. Whether it rains or not it's going to be an amazing day and I will finish!!!
